Description:
Supervision is a skill that is constantly being learned no matter what level you serve in an organization. This session will provide participants an opportunity to create an intentional plan on supervising paraprofessional and professional staff. Understanding the underpinnings and research in this area will assist professionals to examine the type of relationship they want to cultivate with their supervisees.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- identify best practices in supervision
- develop performance management skills
- gain insight as to relevant data on supervision
- develop as a supervisee
Participant Expectations:
Participants should plan to spend approximately 3 to 4 hours prior to the beginning of the webinar to review materials, readings, etc. During the webinar, participants will be asked to fully participate in discussions and conversations through on-line chat feature.
Instructor Bios:
Tom Ellett - currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at New York University. Tom’s current responsibilities include: creation of the living / learning communities, oversight for the Faculty Affiliates (50) and Faculty in Residence (19) programs, and oversight for the following offices: Research and Assessment office, Residential Education, University Community Standards and Compliance, Student Activities, and the Student Resource Center (which includes Orientation and Graduate Student Life). His previous positions have included: Director of Residence Life at Syracuse University and Director of Housing and Residential Life at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Tom received his Ph.D. from Fordham University in Education, Leadership, Administration and Policy program.
Deborah Schmidt-Rogers has been active in the higher education community for the past 25 years. She currently serves as Director of Residential Education at DePaul University in Chicago where she has worked for the past 16 years. Prior to working at DePaul she was employed at The Catholic University of America and Trinity College in Washington, D.C. She holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. Deb has served several professional associations in a variety of capacities including the District of Columbia College Personnel Association (president), Chicago Area Small College Housing Association (chair), and the Great Lakes Association of College and University Housing Officers (presenter, FAB, programming committee member, conference co-chair).
